Hemorroids is known more by the name of piles than any other name.  There are other names like anal fissures, enlargement of anal blood vessels, or protrusion of the anus.  All these names are based on the type of condition that the person is suffering from.  Hemmroids may be internal hemmroids, external hemmroids, bleeding hemmroids or extremely severe hemmroids.  Generally people take don’t take Hemorroids seriously till they reach a stage where they suffer from intense pain.

Hemorroids is characterized by pain in the anal muscles during defecation.  This is accompanied by blood in the stool if there are any fissures.  The fissures are caused by enlargement of the veins and the blood vessels that are located around the anal region.  This is what one faces when first faced by Hemorroids.  Hemorroids can cause weakness and due to pain one may experience loss of consciousness when defecation.

To give you a clear idea as to what is Hemorroids, as with every part of our body blood is supplied and impure blood is pumped back to the heart by the veins.  Veins and blood vessels are found in every part of the body.  It is also found in the anus region.  The anus being a large pore that needs to open and close as per the needs of the body is quite elastic.  So when the veins and blood vessels around the anus are damaged due to excessive stretching or being exposed to harsh waste (excreted in the form of fecal matter from our body), it causes Hemorroids.

The blood vessels that are surrounding the anus damage to form external Hemorroids.  If the same thing happens to the blood vessels / veins in the rectum then it is known as internal Hemorroids.  Severe damage to the veins / blood vessels can cause bleeding, leading to bleeding Hemorroids.  When a person reaches this stage of Hemorroids, it requires immediate medical attention or it may lead to internal infections.

Treating Hemorroids in the early stages is quite easy and all one may have to do is follow certain precautions in diet and life style to keep Hemorroids at bay.  Hemorroids is classified as a life style disease and affects one without age limitation.  However, most men and women get affected after the age of thirty five only. This is due to the condition that it is generally that after this age that the muscles and the veins lose its elasticity.

In the United States alone there are more than five million people who are treated for Hemorroids annually.  This number is increasing with every passing day.  On one hand it can be said that Hemorroids is caused due to the lack of awareness of what is causing it and on the other end even highly educated people like physicians and doctors are also affected by Hemorroids.  This is not lack of understanding of the problem by a “don’t care” attitude.

So what causes Hemorroids?  Hemorroids are caused by a number of factors; this being a life style disease, ones life style causes this disease.  Compounded with it is the type of diet that one consumes; all this governs if you will be affected by this disease or not.
